Kim’s piano, music and bra’s / Minolta XG1 / Neopan 1600 / June, 2013
Sometimes I bemoan the struggling artist status, forgetting that we have comrades and supporters in the struggling musician sector.
"I paint watercolours and my sister is a classical singer."
"Yeah … but like, what do you DO?"
A series of John making cum faces in a public space / June, 2013 / Minolta XG1
Somewhere in Angola John is making someone else’s life hell instead of mine and that pisses me off.
Boys rollerblading in Woodstock, Cape Town / February 2014 / Olympus XA1 / Kodak 200
I went to an art talk in Woodstock. It was pretty boring, but I’m glad I went. Otherwise I would not have seen these two boys.
Cackling cunt / Crayon and gouache on paper / 2014
Asher and I hyped up my Ex Etiquette party by visiting Andie Reeves and Nicholas Preen from Puppy Club on Assembly Radio and chatting till we dropped. Listen to the whole show here.
Take a listen here.
"Today we’re listening to He Said, She Said, a mix about breaking up and making up by Cape Town based artist, film photographer and stylist Lady Skollie (aka Laura Windvogel).
The selection of songs Laura has chosen formed part of the playlist for Ex Etiquette – a ‘breakdown of breakups by Lady Skollie party’ which took place last week. She tells us more:
We met through mutual friends. Things are going great. Your friends like me and I like them. But lately…I don’t know. Things just haven’t been the same. I think this is what they call ‘a rocky patch’. You call me a bitch. I shout “DICK!” into my pillow. I cordially invite you to a public space. “Baby things aren’t working out.” “We’ve gotta talk.”
Devaarne in Summer, 2014 / Devaarne in Winter, 2013 / Olympus XA1
Both seasons have a certain allure.
Sad Papaya Pussy Face / Olympus XA1 / 2014 / Watercolours and ink on Fabriano
God. I can be such a Moana Lisa at times.
I once dated… / Submissions / Roses really smell like. / Gouache and crayon on paper / 2014
I know, I know. I have an Ex Etiquette party, lure you to my dungeon of broken relationships and promises. I lament the cheese of Valentine’s day but what kind of monster would I be if I didn’t give you at least one love filled doodle for this day of love?
Thank you for the support Cape Town!
See some of the contributions above. I’ll be uploading them all next week. You still have time to participate, just email your contribution to ladyskollie (at) gmail (dot) com
By giving me some of your exes loot, you were able to gain access to the party at a cheaper rate. There was an entire STACK of crap, however, I’d like to say the following :
To the person that put the playlist in the Ex Lost and Found Bin:
I think you should still be with whoever made you that CD. I think they truly love you. Or they’re just insanely obsessed with you. I’m not entirely sure which one is better.
Touchy Feely / Gouache and crayon on paper / 2014
Download my Breakup zine here.
In life we celebrate and enjoy all the commonly preferred things: Hookups, weddings, birthdays. Yet we very easily forget how much we come to know ourselves when the going gets tough.
Tomorrow I want us to have a Celebration of Separation. Let’s wallow in breaking up. Submerge ourselves in exes.
Breaking up has taught me more about myself and my life than any man or woman I’ve ever dated. And THAT is a reason to party.
Thank you to Andie Reeves from Puppy Club Radio show for having Asher and I as guests on Assembly Radio to chat about Ex Etiquette - a breakdown of breakups by Lady Skollie.
Hope to see you all there! Wednesday, 12 February 2014 / 9pm / Waiting Room / R30
"Just give me a sec, I’m busy on the internet." / Olympus XA1 / 2014
Friends at arms length / Crayon and gouache on paper / 2014
Sometimes you see it better from afar.
Kate on Tristyn’s balcony, June 2013 / Minolta XG1 Neopan 1600
I could say I’m sorry for using Kate as a subject so often but we’d both know that I was lying. Sorry not sorry.
'Friends' / Crayon and gouache on paper / 2014
They’ve got gloves and knives.
I lost this film and found it last week, 8 months later.
It was a Photographic Lucky Packet.
Cat and Kim as Hot Air Balloon Twins / 1600 Neopan Fujifilm / Minolta XG1 / July 2013
